Title: Through a Glass Darkly
Meter: 9 8 9 8 D
Topic: perspective, faith, trust
We see only through a glass darkly
As we mortals wander below.
These glimpses, they contrast so starkly
To the view that God can bestow.
Often times we’re cut back in our rise
And mourn and that we no more can grow.
But we must not this pruning despise.
It’s up to the gardener to know.
We read only part of the chapter,
Not knowing all that came before.
For we live with time as our captor
Not knowing there is so much more.
Than our brief span of years allotted,
Or the works we accomplish here.
For someday, we’ll see God unspotted
Then the shackles of time disappear.
We know a few notes of the chorus
But never creation’s full song.
So little is laid here before us,
But yet we try to sing along.
The music composed by the Master
Is woven through each living heart.
Directing all things as their pastor
He allows us to play a part.
