Hymn Text: The Weather of the Soul

Date: February 27th, 2017

Title: The Weather of the Soul

Meter: 8 7 8 7 D

Topic: perspective, optimism

A single dark and dismal day

Doesn’t mean your life is gray.

Like nature’s clouds that come and go,

That cast down their rain and snow,

They come to stay a little while,

Are a temporary trial

Then vanish as the sun appears

Cycling throughout the years.

A single, obvious mistake

Doesn’t you a failure of you make

Like a brief storm that blows away

Doesn’t make a rainy day.

Remember how it left you wet

Do not soon its winds forget

Let that moment make you strong

As you learn from what was wrong.

A single fault you see displayed

Shouldn’t make you feel dismayed.

For even when the sun shines bright

Sometimes clouds will mask its light.

Far better on the good to dwell

In others, for you as well.

To see instead all that is right

And to love, all flaws despite.

Hymn Text: Heal My Heart

Date: February 26th, 2017

Title: Heal My Heart

Meter: 7 6 7 6 D

Topic: healing, change, rebirth, humility

Heal my eyes that I may see
Too often I am blind
I miss the path set by Thee
Though it’s not hard find.

Unless I see clearly now
I’ll never find the way
Thou canst with Thy light endow
To keep the dark at bay.

Heal my ears that I may hear
Thy whispers in the night
Often I’m too deaf by fear
To hear Thy words aright.

Thy guidance I will not flee
I will receive Thy word.
Words of life are found in Thee
Let every one be heard.

Heal my mouth that I may speak
No vanity or guile
Words are often dark and bleak
So that they can defile.

Let my voice now echo Thine
In everything I say,
Still and small, but yet divine,
As I Thy love convey.

Heal my heart that I may feel
Thy tenderness within
My whole heart with stone I seal
When I give in to sin.

Help me keep it soft and meek
So that it may be changed
And reinforced where it’s weak.
And newly rearranged.

Hymn Text: We Can Be Still and Know

Date: February 25th, 2017

Title: We Can Be still and Know

Meter: 10 8 10 8

Topic: trust, faith, overcoming adversity

Taking on water and tossed by the waves
Christ’s followers scurried about,
Forgetting the one who comforts and saves,
They wallowed and drowned in their doubt.

Despairing and crying with voices raised
They called to their Master at rest,
But three words He spoke, and all were amazed
As they with calm waters were blessed.

“Wherefore did you doubt?” He said in a voice
As still as the miracle calm.
So everyone has a similar choice-
To trust in the Savior’s sweet balm.

We captain our ship through this mortal sea
Christ stands with us at the wheel.
When gales arise as it surely must be
He knows well the fear that we feel.

But we know that then our ship will not sink
Though hurricanes thunder and blow
Even though God might test us to the brink
With peace, we can be still and know.

Hymn Text: The Well of Faith

Date: February 24th, 2017

Title: The Well of Faith

Meter: 8 6 8 6 D

Topic: faith

Faith is the only well to drink
When other wells run dry.
And when the only rain to sink
Are tears with which you cry.

For mortal reason’s searing sun
No mercy will afford
Faith’s waters are the only one
That always are restored.

Faith is the only well to draw
When thirst becomes intense
All other waters have the flaw:
They can’t long drive thirst hence.

The tempting drink the world provides
So quickly fades away.
For those who drink where faith resides
Relief will ever stay.

Faith is the only source of life
Bestowed like rain or dew.
It quenches doubt, it settles strife,
Misunderstanding too.

It’s ready for us to partake
At any day or hour,
So those who waste away forsake
The glory of faith’s power.

Hymn Text: Our Heavenly Father Sees

Date: February 23rd, 2017

Title: Our Heavenly Father Sees

Meter: 8 6 8 6 D

Topic: dealing with loss, faith, restoration

Our Heavenly Father sees our loss
And what we don’t obtain.
He knows the waves in which we toss
And the chill of the rain.

He knows that they will surely fade

Within an hour or two,
As soon as His pow’r is displayed
The storm is shortly through.

There is no thing that can be lost
That God cannot restore.
Sometimes we pay a mortal cost
Then God will give us more.

The faithful need not now regret
What here is left undone.
All promises are not full yet
The prize is not yet won.

The righteous can anticipate
The bounty yet to be,
When we receive what we await,
What for the best should be.

No blessing or no pure desire
Will ever be denied.
What love and justice will require
Will ever be supplied.

Hymn Text: Some Souls

Date: February 22nd, 2017

Title: Some Souls

Meter: 6 6 6 6 D

Topic: special needs, resurrection

Some souls are sent to earth

With temples so unique

That from their day of birth

They seem God’s love to speak.

Their test is not the same

As others who may live.

Into the world they came

An example to give.

Some souls are far too pure

For Satan to attack

God shelters them secure

And drives the tempter back.

These humble souls reveal

God’s kingdom in our midst

We should not them conceal

But rejoice they exist!

All souls will be restored

To resurrected frames

And stand before the Lord

In glory like bright flames.

In awe, all then will see

These souls for who they are

From mortal fetters free,

Resplendent as a star.

Hymn Text: As We Should See

Date: February 21st, 2017

Title: As We Should See

Meter: 8 6 8 6 D

Topic: overcoming doubt, God’s love, adversity, perspective

When words of doubt come to your mind

You know where they are from.

Unless the words are true and kind

They did not from God come.

The evil one seeks to destroy

Our confidence and peace

As soon we see through His ploy

His power then will cease.

When pangs of fear come to your heart

They are not from above.

Both doubt and sin cause fear to start

And not the God of love.

For Satan would discourage all

From acting on faith’s voice

He uses fear so that we fall

And fail to make a choice.

When discouragement comes to you

You know it is a lie.

The Spirit speaks of what is true,

Will plainly testify,

Of your real heritage divine

In moments of distress,

That you fit in a royal line—

God’s child and nothing less.
