Hymn Text: What All the World Calls Happiness

Date: February 20th, 2017
Title: What All the World Calls Happiness
Meter: 8 6 8 6 D
Topic: truth, happiness, wisdom

What all the world calls happiness
Can dissipate like steam.
Confusing it with wickedness
That has an outward gleam,

But quickly loses luster, worth
And soon is cast aside.
These riches represent a dearth
That cankers from inside.

What all the world calls wisdom now
Can vanish like blown smoke.
Those who will not before God bow
He will their gains revoke.

They build foundations on the sand
That shift and slide below.
For they choose not to understand
The gifts He does bestow.

What all the world may call a light
May truly darkness be.
They can’t discern the day from night,
They claim chains make them free.

We heed them not, but look within
To that voice still and small
That sheds true light on every sin
And overcomes them all.
