Hymn Text: A Sliver of Gethsemane

Date: April 5th, 2017
Title: A Sliver of Gethsemane
Meter: 8 6 8 6 D

A sliver of Gethsemane
Is ours in life to taste.
And though these dregs quite bitter be,
They too would be a waste.

If Christ had not drunk the whole cup.
We taste the smallest sip.
Through Christ our debts can be paid up
Even when we stumble, slip.

A glimpse into Gethsemane
Is given to refine
To show what suffering had to be
To make each one divine.

The fire will burn away the dross
And leave the metal pure.
God will restore our every loss
If we will but endure.

A fragment of Gethsemane
Is all we’ll understand.
We know Christ’s power makes us free
He did as God had planned.

It was his great obedience
That gave Him power to save.
He knew the strong expedience
The darkest depths to brave.
