Hymn Text: The Steadiness of God

Date: April 30th, 2017

Title: The Steadiness of God

Meter: 8 6 8 6 D

Topic: possessions, coveting, treasures in heaven

1.
How worthless is all worldly wealth!
It fades with mortal breath.
How priceless is the spirit’s health—
It does not wane with death.

How cheaply we sell that of worth!
Our faith, our time, our will
We trade for treasures of the earth
That cannot long fulfill.

2.
How fleeting is all mortal praise
It fails upon a whim.
It never lives for many days.
Its sustenance is slim.

How urgently some seek it out!
Instead of God’s acclaim.
But soon they too must live without
Because of fleeing fame.

3.
How steady is God’s holy word
It does not fail, decay
Filling all those who have it heard
With fullness that will stay.

How changeless is God’s holy plan!
Its power does not cease.
It fills the Universe’s span
With light and perfect peace.
