Hymn Text: Every Neighbor Bears a Burden

Date: May 11th, 2017

Title: Every Neighbor Bears a Burden

Meter: 8 6 8 6 D

Topic: empathy, service

Every neighbor bears a burden
They struggle now to bear.
As followers of Jesus then
We can’t add to their care.

A careless word adds to the load
That another carries.
A thoughtless deed tears up the road
On which all tarry.

Every neighbor bears some sorrow
More than we first can see
We can’t put off for tomorrow
To show them charity.

A thoughtful word can be as rain
On thirsty, desert ground.
A kindly deed can long sustain
Though hunger is profound.

Every neighbor bears a blessing
Some gift they have to give.
A pure balm to those distressing
That helps the wounded live.

A talent shared can be a prize
That makes the dreary smile.
A pearly that great value brings,
That lasts a precious while.
