Hymn Test: Our Father Sent Us Here to Serve

Date: July 30th, 2017
Title: Our Father Sent Us Here to Serve
Meter: 8 6 8 6 D
Topic: service, compassion

1.
Our Father sent us here to serve,
And not for selfish gain.
He keeps great blessings in reserve,
For those who faith obtain

To think on others’ daily needs,
Before they fill their own.
To bless each one who humbly pleads,
To leave no one alone.

2.
Our Father sent us here to bless,
To be His arms and hands,
As we seek to resolve distress,
He magnifies our plans.

When we resolve to place our feet
Where He would have us stand,
Great goodness we can then complete,
In ev’ry weary land.

3.
Our Father sent us here to change
The world to be as heav’n,
Though darkness would all men estrange,
We are as holy leav’n.

That makes the slumb’ring world arise
Until it’s rich and full,
Presented as a perfect prize,
With all creation whole.

Hymn Text: I Trust I Made the Better Choice

Date: July 29th, 2017
Title: I Trust I Made the Better Choice
Meter: 8 7 8 7 D
Topic: premortality, choice, agency, God’s plan

1.
I trust I made the better choice
When choosing mortality.
I trust my sure, pre-mortal voice,
My initial agency.

Though mortal burdens weigh me down,
They last only a while.
And someday this deep, mortal frown,
Will become a heav’nly smile.

2.
I trust I took the better path,
When choosing the Savior’s plan.
I know it spares me from God’s wrath,
And it makes it so I can,

Return to Him, though long the road,
And dim the days of life seem.
For Christ will share our mortal load,
Until our last dawn does gleam.

3.
I trust I saw the higher way,
Instead of ease and pleasure.
I trust I saw God’s wealth would stay—
A never-ending treasure.

Though countless souls chose then to stray,
Had no chance to come to Earth,
In outer darkness cast away,
While I arrived here though birth.

All things within my heart,
