Hymn Text: What We Choose to Be

Date: July 11th, 2017
Title: What We Choose to Be
Meter: 6 6 6 6 D
Topic: agency, choice, time

When this life meets its end,
We won’t regret our deeds,
If we were a good friend
Who sought to others needs.

Who always chose kindness,
And spoke with gentle tone.
Who fought against blindness
That leaves others alone.

When this life’s day is done,
In heav’n you shall not lack,
If self-control has won,
You held temptation back.

Your time you did not waste
Nor did your talent hide.
Your thoughts and actions were chaste,
And true you did abide.

When this life’s hour has passed
And soon you then must hear.
An accounting to the last
Of how you chose to live.

You surely then will cry
The chance that you have now.
are to harken and be why,
Before God humbly bow.
