Hymn Text: When Christ Shall Descend

Date: August 30th, 2017
Title: When Christ Shall Descend
Meter: 8 8 8 8 10 8
Topic: the Second Coming, rejoicing, the Millennium

1.
Lift up your head, be of good cheer,
The time of redemption is near.
The dreary night gives way to dawn,
The hope of all nations lives on!

With joy we await the millenn’al day
When Christ shall then descend and stay.

2.
Banish your tears, do not be sad,
But in your salvation be glad.
The stormy seas give way to peace,
The tumult of life will now cease.

With joy we await the millenn’al day
When Christ shall then descend and stay.

3.
Cast off your fear, be not afraid.
The arm of the Lord is displayed.
The fallen world again will rise,
As it ascends to meet the skies.

With joy we await the millenn’al day
When Christ shall then descend and stay.

Hymn Text: All Things Belong to Him on High

Date: August 29th, 2017
Title: All Things Belong to Him on High
Meter: 8 8 8 8
Topic: self reliance, mortality, possessions

1.
All things belong to Him on high,
We grasp them only for a breath.
He will our needs and wants supply,
But we take nothing in our death.

2.
All things are given us to tend,
A while, as we as mortals live.
We’ll give accounting in the end,
God will the faithful more gifts give.

3.
All things on earth must pass away,
And only heaven’s prize remains.
The only treasures that will stay,
Are the jewels our spirit gains.

Hymn Texts: Some Days the Sky is Clear

Date: August 28th, 2017
Title: Some Days the Sky is Clear
Meter: 8 6 8 6 D
Topic: adversity, perspective, endurance

1.
So many days the sky is dark
Some days, the sky is clear.
Though many days the cold is stark,
And all the world seems drear.

The sun shines still behind the cloud,
Still as warm as ever.
Yet untouched by the roiling shroud,
Dissipating never.

2.
So many days the light seems far,
Some days it seems so near.
It beckons like a distant star,
Unreachable, but clear.

The light glows nearer than we think,
Remains within our reach.
So when we in the darkness sink,
The gloom it still can breach.

3.
So many days the winds blow without end
Some days the breeze is still
But though the gale the trees will bend,
It does not break their will.

The roots remain though hurricanes,
Tear branches clean away.
The deepest strength untouched remains,
And will forever stay.

Title: I Ponder Today
Meter: 8 8 8 8

1.
I ponder what I’ve heard today
To let the Spirit teach its way.
To show the Lord I’ve done my part
I come to him with open heart.

2.
I ponder how I now can change,
What pieces can I rearrange
To show the Lord I put Him first,
That for His word I hunger, thirst?

3.
I ponder how I should proceed
How I can fill my neighbor’s need.
What I can do to fill His will,
And when I should instead be still.

Hymn Text: Today I Will Endure

Date: August 25th, 2017
Title: Today I Will Endure
Meter: 6 6 6 6 8 8
Topic: endurance, the Iron Rod, grace

1.
Today I will endure,
Though my shoulders are weak,
Though my feet are unsure.
Though I can hardly speak.

The Iron Rod helps me to stand,
To weather what our God has planned.

2.
Today I will remain,
Though my arms cannot hold,
Though my eyesight is strained,
Though my pain is untold.

The Iron Rod keeps me upright,
And helps me through the bitter night.

3.
Today I will abide,
Though my burdens are great,
Though I tremble inside,
Though I know not my fate.

The Iron Rod helps me to see,
The destination, the bright tree.

Hymn Text: A Sanguine Flower

Date: August 24rd, 2017
Title: A Sanguine Flower
Meter: 8 6 8 6 D
Topic: Atonement, Christ, sacrifice

1.
My soul is like a blooming flow’r
With petals sanguine red.
It’s rooted in the higher pow’r
Of Him who for it bled.

Who marked each petal with His blood
To show it is His own.
It flows within them like a flood
For they are His alone.

2.
The flower bears a bitter thorn,
That brings a bitter sting.
As the crown that His head adorned,
Its bitter touch did bring.

That I may never long forget
The agony He bore,
The blood that dripped like constant sweat,
From ev’ry single pore.

3.
The flower brings a fragrance fair
That will not fade away.
For its true root is always there,
Vitality will stay.

Its seeds unnumbered spread abroad
In the eternal land,
A tribute to our holy God
Who this pure garden planned.
