Hymn Text: Faith is a Princple of Power

Date: November 29th, 2017
Title: Faith is a Principle of Power
Meter: 8 8 8 8
Topic: belief, priesthood, miracles

Faith is a principle of pow’r,
Great mountains melt before its might,
It turns a seedling to a flow’r,
It brings the end of darkest night.

Faith sends the sprout through stony ground,
It melts the glacier, drop by drop,
It makes the driest plain abound,
It makes the fiercest fire stop.

Faith guides the one who has strayed far,
It anchors those who true remain.
It steadies all who seek a star,
It promises we will obtain.

Faith raises those who sleep in death,
It rids the soul of awful sin.
It gives a cause to ev’ry breath,
It holds the pow’r of God within.

Hymn Text: Faith’s Way

Date: November 28th, 2017
Title: Faith’s Way
Meter: 7 7 7 7
Topic: faith, refinement, endurance

When we choose to walk faith’s way,
We prepare to see God’s face.
For its light will not decay,
Nor will God’s resplendent grace.

Faith allows our souls to shine,
As we take in heaven’s light.
It reveals our home divine,
And endows with holy might.

Faith allows us to endure,
When we otherwise would fade,
It refines us bright and pure,
So we might thrive in the shade.

Faith allows us to find rest,
Though the turmoil has not ceased,
It allows us to be blessed,
In a world devoid of peace.

Hymn Text: The Human Family

Date: November 27th, 2017
Title: The Human Family
Meter: 8 7 8 7 D
Topic: atonement, grace, the Good Shepherd

The human fam’ly has wandered,
Far from their home above.
All of our works would be squandered,
If not for our Savior’s love.

Though we have fallen and stumbled,
Our Savior can each retrieve.
He raises those who’ve been humbled,
And firmly on Him believe.

The human fam’ly’s indebted,
Far more than we all can pay.
All have something they’ve regretted,
And fear it will with us stay.

Though we are beggars, imploring,
For mercy we did not earn,
His plenty fills us, outpouring,
When we for compassion turn.

The human fam’ly’s in prison,
Held captive by sin and death,
If Christ had never arisen,
We’d stay beyond our last breath.

Though we are stained and unworthy,
The Lamb makes our garments pure.
Changing from dross to praiseworthy,
Making salvation secure.

Hymn Text: Service

Date: November 26th, 2017
Title: Service
Meter: 7 6 7 6
Topic: service, compassion, charity

Service turns the gloomy day,
Into one that is bright.
Service is the purest way,
To share some of God’s light.

Opportunities abound,
For those who will look around.

Service fills the broken heart,
With healing water sweet.
Service lets us all take part,
To make God’s work complete.

Opportunities will fly,
If we let them pass us by.

Service heals the ones who serve,
The Spirit they receive.
Service is what all deserve,
It helps us to believe.

Opportunities arrive,
And they help the souls survive.

Surely we knew the price we would pay,
Surely we knew the pain we would feel,

Surely we knew the fight was real.

Surely we know the price we would pay.
Surely we knew, but chose anyway.

Surely we knew life would be a test,
Surely we knew that some would fail.
Surely we knew we must do our best,
Surely we knew we could prevail.

Surely we know the price we would pay.
Surely we knew, but chose anyway.

Surely we knew the road would be steep,
Surely we knew of burdens great,
Surely we knew that God would not sleep.
Surely we knew of mortal’s fate.

Surely we know the price we would pay.
Surely we knew, but chose anyway.

Hymn Text: Commandments Are Not Curses

Date: November 24th, 2017
Title: Commandments Are Not Curses
Meter: 10 8 10 8
Topic: obedience, blessings, protection

Commandments are not curses to bemoan,
We should never murmur or groan,
Instead, be grateful for the given light.
It is the string that holds the kite.

Commandments are not punishments to scourge,
They help our wickedness to purge.
Refinements requires painful pruning,
Alignment requires fine-tuning.

Commandments are not rules to be ignored.
For they are guidance from the Lord.
He gives them out of love and not hate,
We must trust in his wisdom great.

Commandments are not given on a whim,
Got hopes we’ll draw closer to him.
They mold us into who we ought to be
Instead of chains, they set us free.

Hymn Text: How Great a Gift is Gratitude

Date: November 23rd, 2017
Title: How Great a Gift is Gratitude
Meter: 8 6 8 6 D
Topic: thankfulness, optimism, blessings

How great a gift is gratitude,
It blesses every day.
A cheerful, thankful attitude,
Will cause our joy to stay,

Whatever our life’s condition,
Gratitude finds the joy,
It sweetens our mortal mission,
When we our thanks employ.

How great a reason mortals have
To thank our God in pray’r.
For mortals cares, he is the salve.
His hand is everywhere.

We thank him through the praise we sing,
We think Him through our deeds,
We thank Him through each offering
That sees to others’ needs.

How numerous are blessings found,
When we will stop and see,
How favors great and small abound,
From Him who willingly,

Absolves our sins when we repent,
And bears them as His own,
No greater gift was ever sent
Than He who did atone.
