Hymn Text: Why Do We Risk Eternal Life?

Date: November 9th, 2017
Title: Why Do We Risk Eternal Life?
Meter: 8 6 8 6 8 8
Topic: priorities, agency, perspective

Why do we risk eternal life
For that which fades away?
Why do we lead ourselves to strife
For that which cannot stay?

The things that mortals call a prize,
Are but a trinket in disguise.

Why do we sell our blessings great
For that of little worth?
For sustenance, which cannot sate,
For that which leaves a dearth?

While others grasp for Mammon’s spoil,
We fill our lamps with saving oil.

3. Why do we often give no thought
To matters of the soul?
The price at which we’re dearly brought
The power in control.

While mortals ponder lesser things,
We contemplate the King of Kings.
