Hymn Text: Our Mortal Race

Title: Our Mortal Race
Meter: 8 6 8 6 D

1.
Our mortal life is but a race,
We run from day to day.
Where each of us sets his own pace,
And forges his own way.

We must not run more than our strength
Or else we’ll faint and fall.
But we should run all of life’s length
And give this race our all.

2.
Our mortal life is but a race,
We do not run alone.
For angels grant us Jesus’ grace,
When our foot hits a stone.

We must not let each other fall,
When we run by their side.
For when we on our Father call,
New strength will be supplied.

3.
Our mortal life is but a race,
With glory at the end.
For when it’s through, we’ll see God’s face,
And he all wounds will mend.

We must not give up, but endure,
Until our run’s complete,
Until we gain our witness sure,
While at our Savior’s feet.
