Hymn Text: Pains, Temptations of Every Kind

Title: Pains, Temptations of Every Kind
Meter: 8 7 8 7 D
Scripture: Alma 7:11-13

1.
Pains, temptations of every kind
Were our Savior’s load to bear.
The bitterest dregs of mankind’s cup
He drained and became aware.

Of all that had suffered till then.
And would suffer through all time.
Pressing from Him His precious blood
As oil is pressed from the vine.

2.
Sins and infirmities as well
Weighed down upon his dear back.
Providing us sufficient grace
For all the times that we lack.

This caused even Him to tremble
To cry for heaven’s relief.
An angel came then to comfort
The depths of His solemn grief.

3.
Though deep as death he descended
His descent was not in vain.
He took on the greatest darkness
But He did not there remain.

Now His heart swells with compassion
For all those who suffer here.
He knows just how to succor them
For He paid the price most dear.
